New Directions in Japan Travel
Over more than a decade working across the travel industry—from guiding and regional tourism development to tour design and management—I have watched Japan travel become increasingly concentrated along a narrow and familiar route. The same destinations and experiences are repeated, placing ever greater pressure on a handful of communities while leaving much of the country’s cultural and natural richness overlooked. Visitors may see Japan’s celebrated highlights, yet leave with only a partial understanding of the country and the people who live here.
I believe travel should lead us beyond the familiar—not simply in search of undiscovered places, but toward encounters that are more personal, reciprocal, and meaningful. As a Travel Producer and Tourism Strategist, I connect destinations, local partners, and travel companies to create journeys that distribute tourism more thoughtfully and reveal a more intimate and human Japan. My aim is not merely to show people more of the country, but to help them engage with it more deeply—and return home seeing it, and hopefully themselves, from a new perspective.
